3. The meat market at the Mallard Corner Store opened Oct. 24 at 803 N.W. Carlos G. Parker Blvd., Taylor. The store offers meats including chicken, pork and beef that are marinated or seasoned. Vegetables and spices are also sold at the meat market. 595-5097

4. Owner Kelly Garmon plans to open HawgLite in early December at 119 E. Third St., Taylor. Garmon has operated the company for six years from his home and sells hunting and archery supplies. He has also developed cooking seasonings. 636-1798, www.hawglite.com

5. Pat Rabroker plans to open Westphalia Market in December at the Hutto Commons shopping center, 409 W. Front St., Ste. 206, Hutto. The meat market will carry a variety of sausages, lunch meats, deli meats and jerky, as well as a small line of grocery items such as milk, eggs, butter and cheese.

6. International Bancshares Corp. is closing 55 of its smaller branches located in grocery stores nationwide, including one in Taylor. The branch is located inside H-E-B at 100 N.W. Carlos G. Parker Blvd. and is slated to close Dec. 28. IBC officials stated new regulations regarding how much banks can charge stores for debit card transactions is the reason for the closings. www.ibc.com

7. On Oct. 10, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization selected about $53 million in regional transportation and mobility improvement projects that it is recommending the Texas Department of Transportation fund over the next three years, including a $13.8 million project on FM 685. The project consists of reconstructing FM 685 to create a divided roadway with turn lanes, sidewalks, bicycle accommodations and an elevated bridge structure. www.campotexas.org
